Ismo Eskelinen, 1971 in Kuopio, Finnland geboren, gilt als einer der besten klassischen Gitarristen der Welt. Als Orchestersolist, Kammermusiker und in Zusammenarbeit mit einigen der bedeutendsten zeitgenössischen Komponisten machte er die klassische Gitarre einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich.
Er nahm zwei Bach-Alben auf, von denen das erste 2014 den finnischen Emma-Preis in der Kategorie „Bestes klassisches Album“ gewann. Es folgten Auftritte mit den Berliner Philharmonikern, dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam, der Royal Festival Hall und dem Théâtre de la Monnaie sowie als erster Solist in der neuen Music Hall in Helsinki mit dem Helsinki Philharmonic und dem Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Zu seinen jüngsten Solistenengagements zählen Auftritte mit dem BBC Symphony Orchestra in London und der NWD Philharmonie in Deutschland.
Von 2017 bis 2023 war er künstlerischer Leiter der Riihimäki-Sommerkonzerte. Als Artist in Residence bei Verkatehdas in Hämeenlinna konzipierte er für die Saison 2016–2017 eine Konzertreihe unter dem Titel Global Guitar.
Ismo Eskelinen, born in Kuopio, Finland, in 1971, is recognised as one of the best classical guitarists in the world. As an orchestral soloist, chamber musician, and in collaboration with some of the most important contemporary composers, he has made the classical guitar accessible to a wider audience.
He recorded two Bach albums, the first of which won the Finnish Emma Award in the ‘Best Classical Album’ category in 2014. His performance highlights include appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Théâtre de la Monnaie, as well as serving as the first soloist in the new Music Hall in Helsinki with the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
His most recent solo engagements include performances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London and the NWD Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany.
From 2017 to 2023, he served as artistic director of the Riihimäki Summer Concerts. As artist in residence at Verkatehdas, Hämeenlinna, he curated a Global Guitar concert series for the 2016–2017 season.
